Spice up your Taste Buds with our Spiced Muesli Blend

This unique blend is the first in our 2016 series of muesli blends we chose this blend to co-inside with Christmas but because of the beautiful spice combinations. Some of the benefits of these herbs other than creating a beautiful aroma in your kitchen each morning are the fabulous benefits to your diet:

The health benefits of ginger root oil can be attributed to its digestive, carminative, expectorant, antiseptic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, stimulating and aphrodisiac properties. The benefits of ginger oil include its ability to treat stomach problems, nausea, heart strokes, indigestion, inflammation, respiratory problems, and menstrual disorders.

Some of the most impressive health benefits of cinnamon include its ability to help manage diabetes, protect against fungal and bacterial infections, increase brain function, prevent certain cognitive disorders, improve digestion, boost the strength of the immune system.

Is a popular spice that has a long list of associated health benefits, including its ability to relieve pain, soothe indigestion, strengthen cognitive function, detoxify the body, boost skin health, alleviate oral conditions, reduce insomnia, increase immune system function, and prevent leukemia, and improve blood circulation.

This pungent herbs offers many health benefits, some of which include providing aid in digestion, having antimicrobial properties, fighting against cancer, protecting the liver, boosting the immune system, controlling diabetes, preserving bone quality, and containing anti-mutagenic properties, as well as fighting against oral diseases and headaches, while displaying aphrodisiac properties as well.

To finish off the blend we wanted to add a little sweetness and some POP in your mouth.

So we added in the Cranberries and Goji berries.

These of course add the Christmas feel to is but on a regular basis the health benefits of Goji berry include the control of diabetes, the lowering of cholesterol, free radical scavenging, cardiovascular protection, possible cancer control, protection of brain cells, protection of the liver and skin protection from UV radiation. It also helps in improving eyesight, general well-being and strengthening the immune system.

Cranberries are well know to support relief from urinary tract infection, respiratory disorders, kidney stones, cancer, and heart disease. It is also beneficial in preventing stomach disorders and diabetes, as well as gum diseases caused by dental plaque. Phytonutrients, which are naturally derived plant compounds, are present in cranberries and have been found to prevent a wide range of health problems.

Nuts and Seeds of course are a great source of nutrients and protein. So we added in the slivered almonds and pepita seeds.

Finally we thought this muesli would go perfectly with some shredded coconut and coconut sugar. This provides a whole rounded muesli you can take on the go where ever without having to add anything else.

Christmas Spiced Muesli

This week we here at GK Gluten Free Foods are Super Excited to introduce you to our new Christmas Spiced Muesli.

You see we are continually asked all the time, “What else do you have?” Well now we can say oats and muesli, yipeee!!

We have presented the oats to many a muesli company and they have rejected it until it can be labeled ‘Gluten Free’.  Seeing none of us have a crystal ball we can trust, we thought, well why not just do it ourselves. So we did.

I have spent the last few month trialing this blend with friends and family asking for feedback.  Now is the time to share it will our customers and see if you think it is as delicious as we do.

I am determined to keep this blend as #Clean and #Healthy as possible.
Our ingredient profile is :
·      Dairy Free
·      No added preservatives
·      Sugar Free
·      Wheat Free
·      Uncontaminated from gluten grains

We plan to present you all with a range of muesli blends over the next 12 months and let you help us by sharing your thoughts, the flavours you and your family love and which blends you prefer.

So let’s have a bit of fun with this I say:

We have a little questionnaire that won’t give you heartburn, hand on heart I pinky promise.  Just   ½ dozen questions.  We want you to be honest, not brutal but constructive.  This is about YOU really and how we can give you something that
·      Taste’s great
·      Nutritious – of course
·      Is as cost effective as possibly possible

So we thought it only appropriate that we give you a chance to WIN a $50 gift voucher to use in the shop with us.  PLUS you will get a FREE copy of our new recipe book 50 ways with GF Oats to be released early in the New Year.

So please Order your Christmas Spiced Muesli here and pop over to our Feedback Form and tell us what you thought.

Baked Turkey with GF Oats Herb Crust

·      1 Large Organic Turkey Breast or 2 fillets
·      ¼ cup of milk or alternative
·      1 tblspn of mustard powder
·      ½ cup of GF Oats
·      1 tblspn of Dried Sage
·      1 tblspn of Dried Rosemary
·      Seasoning to taste

Mix together milk and mustard into a dipping bowl.  Blend together the oats, herbs and seasoning.  You can slightly blitz the oats or use whole oats.  I generally have some blitzed and oat crumbs on hand but today I didn’t so I just used the whole oats.
Cut the Turkey meat into the potion sizes you require and dip into the milk liquid then into the Oats and seasoning.  Keep rolling the fillets until they are completely covered.
Place the fillets onto a pre prepared baking tray lined with baking paper.  Spray the fillets liberally with olive oil.  This really helped the oats to brown nicely.
Bake in a preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes depending on the thickness of the turkey breasts.

I served with a simple cabbage stir-fry steamed with a homemade chicken broth and Passata which I added some gluten free noodles.

Raw Oat Milk Recipe

1 cup GF Oats
1 1/2 litres water (you can substitute some of the water for Coconut Water if you like)
2 dates

At least several hours before you're going to make the oat milk:

1. Place the oats and dates in a bottle/container pour the water over them, and shake or stir for a moment.

2. Let them soak in the refrigerator for at least several hours or more; overnight is fine. The longer soaking time the tastier the final product.

When you're ready to make your oat milk:

3. Transfer the oat mixture into a blender and blend until smooth.

4. Pour the contents of the blender into a clean nut milk bag (muslin cloth will work fine also) that you've placed over a bowl large enough to hold all the oat milk, and strain it through the bag. This involves squeezing, kneading, squishing and 'milking' the bag. The idea is to get all the liquid through the bag, leaving only what's left of the solid oats inside.

5. Your oat milk is now ready! Just pour it into clean glass jars, cover and refrigerate.

You will notice that after your oat milk has been sitting for a little while it will start to separate.  Just  shake it up before you use it.
